Quartly Meeting 2-21-2009

The RSM quarterly membership meeting was held on Saturday, 2/21/09 at Linden Vineyards.

The key agenda topic was election of officers for the next 2 years.

Nominations and elections are as follow:

Bruce Haslam – President
Rebecca Kelly – Treasurer
Carolyn Peery – Secretary

Bruce agreed to serve again only on the condition that we adopt term limits!!

Additional agenda items:

  1. Tom Gordon joined the meeting to share information about Piedmont Broadband
Company, and their local high speed internet service.  If anyone is interested in
talking with them about the local service ($79.95 monthly for 1.2 megabits +
installation), and to request a site report for your home, contact Rebecca at 1-540
905 7655 or 1-888-688-3422  Their offices are at 20 Ashby Street, Suite 110,
Warrenton, and web address is www.pbbwireless.com.
  2. Phone Tree for emergency communications – Carolyn Peery agreed to prepare a
flyer, and we agreed that the best way to spread the news and determine interest was
for each of us to stop by and share with 4 or 5 neighbors, and ask them to share
information as well.  We will also look into retrieving updated addresses from
property records at the Fauquier County Planning Office  for a mailing, though that
will only reach property owners.  There will be more information about this prior to
    the next meeting.
  3. Spring cleanup- we will be planning a spring trash pickup along Fiery Run Road
and feeder roads in mid to late March.  Please be on the lookout for an email, and
for the signs and orange bags that Rebecca Kelly distributes to several locations on
the road.  As before we will collect the trash and leave filled bags for pickup next
    to the signs.
  4. Bruce gave an update on the trial and sentencing of Tim Lowery.  Tim pled guilty
and was sentenced to 40 years in prison. As of the meeting, Ken Jenkins had not yet
had his sentencing hearing.  Their victim is staying with relatives out of the area
and has an unrelated serious illness.  Bruce has contacted the Social Services case
worker, and asked her to let him know if neighbors here can be of any assistance.
Barbara Richmond is active with the Fauquier County Cancer Society, and she offered
    to help as well.
  5. Some neighbors have expressed concern that there is ongoing illegal drug related
activity on the Lowery property.  The Commonwealth Attorney in Warrenton, David
Dishley, has told us that, without the owner’s permission or evidence of illegal
activity, the sheriff cannot execute a search of the Lowery property.  His
recommendation is that neighbors should report any suspicious or illegal activity to
    the sheriff.
  6. Rob Pullian reported that he has renewed the domain name for the website, and
will plan to make some updates, with focus on design for dial-up access, which many
folks on the mountain depend on.

Before adjourning the meeting, Bruce asked the membership to begin thinking of
future issues that we should tackle.  Baker Spring agreed to do some research on
Norfolk Southern plans for expansion in the area, which include a parallel track to
the existing track and discussion regarding a north-south tunnel under Rattlesnake
Mountain.

The next meeting will be held on Saturday, May 2, at 6:00 PM at Linden Vineyards.
