Subject : Update - Rattlesnake Mountain Association News and Power line Issues
Go to previous message|Go to next message|Delete|Inbox

A lot has happened since we had the first neighborhood meeting on January 6 at Linden Vineyards.  We have formed a Board of Directors from volunteers for the Rattlesnake Mountain Association.  The Board members are Janet Pulliam, Carol Scott, John Dean, Jim Law and Lauren Fillmore.  We have filed articles of incorporation thanks to Carol Scott and Chris Korjus.

The next Rattlesnake Mountain Association meeting will be held at

6 pm February 10 at Linden Vineyards.

The meeting is to nominate and elect officers, consolidate actions to oppose the power lines, and address other community issues as necessary.

Rob Pulliam has designed a Rattlesnake Mtn Association web site:

Please check it out.  Rob is collecting photos of our area to add to the webpage.

Power line Activities Update

Carol Scott and Lauren Fillmore met with Harry Atherton (Fauquier County Board of Supervisors).  The county is encouraging property owners of parcels large enough to subdivide to consider Fauquier county's Purchase of Development Rights program.  The county has accepted many conservation easements in strategic locations in efforts to block the line routes.  Check out the Piedmont Environmental Counsel website for more information.

Fauquier County GIS department has graciously prepared a large map of the Rattlesnake Mountain Area with all the parcels on it so that we can see exactly where any property owner is relative to the proposed line routes and if their property is in the 2000 foot impact zone identified by pending state legislation.  This map is at Linden Vineyards and can be viewed at the meeting.

The Board of Directors sent a letter opposing the power line and challenging the need for this line to Governor Kaine.  The letter is on the website.

Due to 30+ pending state bills that will affect the power line route, alternatives to this route, and modernize Virginia's outdated energy policy (Virginia is the last state in the nation in energy conservation!), several residents traveled to Richmond for a rally and to attend the public hearing (Rob Pulliam and sons Alex and Tristan, Catherine Cornish, Jim Law, Shari Avenius, Angie and Jeff Boucher and daughter Catherine, Bonnie Aitken and Lauren Fillmore).  More public hearings are to be scheduled in the next few weeks while this critical legislation is being evaluated by our Virginia senators and delegates.  Delegate Clay Athey (Warren/Fauquier), Delegate May (Loudoun) and Senator Colgan have sponsored many bills to modernize Virginia energy policy and reign in the indiscriminate location of transmission lines where ever Dominion wants to place them.  A Rattlesnake Mountain Association position paper similar to the letter to Governor Kaine was distributed to all the senators and delegates.

More details will be discussed at the February 10th meeting.  PLEASE PASS THIS EMAIL ON TO NEIGHBORS IN THE RATTLESNAKE MOUNTAIN COMMUNITY WHO ARE NOT ON THE DISTRIBUTION LIST.  ALSO PLEASE SEE THAT YOU TELL NEIGHBORS WITHOUT EMAIL.  There are 160 property owners in Fauquier County part of Rattlesnake Mountain and about 40 in the Warren County side.  We have not reached everyone.
